It was the Human Rights Day today – The 61st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. At the same time, it was somehow sad not to find much related events this year. I found a link to the Human Rights Day 2009 at the United Nations website at http://www.un.org/en/events/humanrightsday/2009 – referring to a special event that took place there to commemorate the Human Rights Day 2009 – A Panel Discussion on Discrimination in Development: Race. Poverty and Power, opened by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

You may also read about the celebration of the Day, for example, at the University of Pretoria, at http://www.ohchr.org/EN/AboutUs/Pages/HumanRightsDay2009.aspx

FOLLOW: This was the 1st World Human Rights Moot Court Competition that was organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria with the support of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
